This lovely star shaped bead is made of faience. This is a type of glass with copper added. This gives it a turquoise colour. On this example the colour is strongest on the points of the star. It can also be seen on the other surfaces.
Faience beads are sometimes found with Bronze Age burials in this country. In the past archaeologists believed these were imported from Egypt. The Egyptians were fond of faience and used it for all kinds of decorative objects. Today archaeologists believe these beads were made here.
