The boar on the replica Benty Grange helmet is quite a complex construction. It shows the considerable skills of metalworkers in the 7th century.

The boar is made from several pieces fitted together. The core of the body is of bronze, with a gap running along the boar's back. This is for fitting the bristles. The body plates are attached to this core, one for each side of the boar. These were cut and shaped to fit snugly. Each has separate hip plates, indicating the position of the legs. The last piece is the legs themselves. These were attached to a curved plate which fitted onto the top of the helmet.
