This beautiful necklace is one of an important group of gold Anglo-Saxon objects from burials in the Peak District. Unfortunately it comes from a disturbed burial at Galley Low. Little is known about the person it was buried with.

The necklace is made of gold and garnet, a favourite of the Anglo-Saxons. It has been dated to the later 7th century. This is a similar date to the other Anglo-Saxon material from the Peak District.
