Doorstops were made of green bottle glass. The glass was probably taken from the bottom of the crucible at the end of the day. Otherwise it would be thrown away.

Some doorstops are decorated. The flower and pot design is produced by a two stage process. Several cup shaped pieces of molten glass are fitted into each other. Then a pointed tool is pushed into it, forming trumpet like shapes. They look like flowers in a pot.

Doorstops are larger and heavier than paperweights. They were made from the later 19th century in Yorkshire.
