The original Benty Grange helmet was designed to be worn. Here the replica helmet is worn. This gives some idea of how the original would have looked.

It fits well on the man's head. The contrast between the black horn and the white horn and the silver fittings is very striking. The boar and cross stand out. The whole object is very eye catching. This was its most important function. It is unlikely it was ever worn in a battle. Some kind of ceremonial use is more likely.
