This axehead was found close to Arbor Low henge by Leslie Armstrong. It is made from stone. It has been carefully worked and shaped, and the surface is very smooth. This is done by polishing using sand, water and a rubbing stone. This is a long job, taking many hours.

The wide end of the axe is the cutting end. The other end, called the butt, was attached to a wooden handle. The axe may have been tied to the handle with a leather cord. Alternatively, it may have fitted into a socket, carved into the top of the handle, and secured with glue.
