Cairn T36 on Stanton Moor was excavated in 1953 by a party of boys from Chesterfield School, supervised by J. P. Heathcote. This stone battleaxe was found in an undisturbed burial in this cairn.

Battleaxes are found in Bronze Age burials in various parts of the country. They are made of stone which has been finely and painstakingly worked. Shapes and forms vary but all are have a hole in them. This is an Early Bronze Age form often found with cremations.
