The bead is made of blue glass. It was found with the other rich Anglo-Saxon objects in the female burial at Cow Low.

The Anglo-Saxons liked to wear jewellery and were fond of glass beads. Several have been found in burials in the Peak District. They are also found in other parts of the country. They can be very brightly coloured and patterned. This one is a relatively plain example. The green brown patches are impurities in the glass.
