Llewellynn Jewitt's watercolours of the objects in Thomas Bateman's collection are an important record. He painted the larger and more impressive material. This included the Benty Grange helmet shown here. However, he also drew smaller, more fragmentary remains.

The watercolour of the helmet shows how similar it is today. The most obvious difference is the boar. It still has the corrosion which was not removed until 1948. This was exactly one hundred years after it was first excavated.
