Excavation of the barrow at Liffs Low
Site name : Liffs Low
Site type : Burial site
Time period : Neolithic
The barrow at Liffs Low was partially re-excavated in 1984. This photograph was taken during that excavation. An area on the eastern side of the barrow was dug. This examined areas disturbed in the 1930s. It did not examine the central cist found by Thomas Bateman in 1843.
The terraces visible on the photograph are not part of the barrow construction. They are the remnants of the terraces cut into the barrow in the 1930s.
This modern excavation provided further information on the history of the site. This compliments the details recorded by Bateman.
