The circle and cairn at Doll Tor have been excavated several times. Thomas Bateman excavated an area in the centre of the circle on 10th April 1852. He found the remains of urns and Pygmy cups. They had been previously disturbed and were broken. About eighty years later J. P. and J. C. Heathcote did their own excavation. There has probably been further work we do not know about.
The urn was found with a burial in the cairn. It is plain and undecorated. The arrowhead shows how skilled Bronze Age flintworkers were . The star-shaped faience bead is a fine example of its kind. This group shows a range of typically Bronze Age objects. These are found in burials in the Peak District and in other parts of the country.
