This glass bowl from Cow Low barrow is complete and in excellent condition. Glass vessels are unusual finds from the Anglo-Saxon period. The making of glass vessels was only poorly understood. Beads were easier to make and are more common finds.
A number of similar glass bowls of Anglo-Saxon date are known. They are very rare and unusual finds. This object alone shows that this was the burial of someone important. It is the only known surviving example from the Peak District.
