This unusual object was found by Thomas Bateman at Liffs Low in 1843. It is an antler macehead. There are several examples from this country. This is the only one from Derbyshire.

They are thought to be of Neolithic date. This is because they are found with Neolithic objects. Similar objects have recently been dated to around 3000 BC.
